What is it?
Arthritis is painful stiffness in the joint, which causes a significant amount of discomfort, inflammation and damage to joints and cartilage and can cause fatigue and even depression. Affecting your musculoskeletal system, arthritis is one of the leading causes of disability in those over the age of 55 years old; however, it can affect individuals of all ages.
What causes it?
Causes can include a lack of fluid (which provides nourishment to the joints, as well as the surrounding cartilage), infection, or a reduction of cartilage. If you are suffering from arthritis, it is essential to remain as active as possible. The application of hot and cold packs placed strategically may help reduce the pain and discomfort.
Here at Elite Performance Therapy we have seen first-hand that regular massage of muscles and joints can lead to a significant reduction in pain for people with arthritis. Improvements include pain reduction, reduced stiffness, improved range of motion and hand grip strength and overall improvement in the function of the joints.
“I had been seeing Isy at Elite Performance Therapy for tendonitis in my ankle and happened to mention that my wrist was playing up when playing tennis. I hadn’t thought of mentioning it before as presumed it was arthritis. Isy queried if it had ever been officially diagnosed and I sheepishly said no! Isy only spent 10 mins treating my arm and wrist and I have had better flexibility and no pain ever since.. can’t believe it! Thank you! “
